Placing patient conversations at the heart of healthcare
As an international leader in AI-powered automation, and supported by Microsoft, EBO has built an unrivalled team of data scientists, linguists and software developers rooted by clinical insight. EBO is an active contributor to leadership around the positively managed impact of Artificial Intelligence and continues to invest significantly in both software tools and a range of professional services to support the introduction of novel technologies during challenging times for the NHS.
Who is EBO?
EBO delivers meaningful outcomes by helping businesses automate repetitive processes.
We create highly customisable Virtual Assistants that offer your patients a service so seamless, that it is indistinguishable from the experience of interacting with your human resources.
Virtual Assistants have the added advantage of continuously learning how to perform more tasks better. EBO’s AI solutions enable your staff to focus on solving more significant, complex issues.
We believe that the benefits of AI should be available to all companies irrespective of size. EBO’s AI enables enterprises to connect more meaningfully and efficiently with customers, freeing their staff to add value where it matters most. We transform customer service by providing the right tools to improve efficiency and drive down costs.
What sets EBO apart?
EBO’s AI solution simulates human conversation between a healthcare service provider and its patients in over 100 languages and on any channel of choice. By creating this rich personalised experience, EBO lowers the bar for digital inclusion and enables patients to take an active role in their healthcare journey. This helps patients to feel seen, heard and most importantly, valued, and informed.
EBO’s AI solution can be integrated securely with existing clinical systems, such as Electronic Patient Records (EPRs) to be able to act on behalf of the patient based on defined workflows. This approach automates processes which otherwise would require human intervention.
EBO is superior to existing market solutions due to its novel approach to addressing healthcare accessibility and efficiency through conversational AI technologies, ensuring that nobody is left behind. Current market solutions often extend the functions of legacy systems into hard-to-use portals, apps and tedious forms. EBO on the other hand, offers a more intuitive and user-friendly conversational interface which can be used from basic devices with low digital literacy skills. EBO ensures that any transaction with patients happens via a two-way natural dialogue that is accurate, empathic and engaging.

Virtual Agents help businesses drive conversations.
Here are a few words from our clients on their experience with our solution.
We are proud to announce that EBO’s AI solution for Shropshire Community NHS Trust has been shortlisted as a finalist for the ‘Driving Change through AI and Automation Award’ category at the esteemed 2024 HSJ Digital Awards.
Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust collaborated with EBO to create an AI-powered Virtual Assistant to digitalise School Aged Immunisation Service (SAIS) e-Consent. Co-designed with frontline teams, the e-Consent Virtual Assistant has generated 95% patient satisfaction scores and automated 3,500+ consent conversations since the start of the project, freeing up staff time and broadening digital.
This marked the start of an exciting collaborative journey to embed AI-driven automation into the Trust’s system. Appointment management and care home assessments are being trialled whilst patient validation and a patient portal are up next.
This ‘first of type’ project uses Natural Language Processing to converse naturally with patients, via two-way human-like dialogue, as well as integrating bi-directionally with the Trust’s Rio EPR. The solution manages consent, appointments and pre-assessments capturing all information straight into the EPR. Data collected during conversations is then used to automate back-office processes.
Commenting on working with EBO, Andy I’Anson IT Programme Manager at Shropshire NHS Trust said that “Working with EBO is like ‘a breath of fresh air‘. They have a deep-seated ‘can-do’ ethos to delivering successful solutions and our collaboration functions as a true partnership”.
This recognition serves as a testament to the tireless efforts of all involved; at Shropshire Community NHS Trust, EBO and the Access Group. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries and transform healthcare through innovation, one AI solution at a time.

[EBO] more than rose to the challenge. It felt like a true development partnership with staff from both EBO and BCU forming a cohesive team

If a solution like EBO is implemented across the NHS, it can revolutionise access to maternity care for the majority of service users. The point is to release capacity in Health systems by using innovation and technology that supports that.

The experience of working with EBO on our Virtual Assistant has been very positive. EBO and Servelec listened to our feedback and helped design AI solutions that benefit our patients by providing an alternative way they interact with the trust.

I think where we really found the stress is on the admin. A lot of our service users are calling us, which means that our lines are continuously busy and admins miss some of the calls, as they are on the phone with another service user at the time. It means that people are trying to get in contact till the late evening when the services are closed. It really opened up our eyes to see that there are other ways our clients can communicate with us and there are other ways that we can communicate with the clients. It actually works for them.

- Digital Transformation Project Manager

We have a growing backlog and we have patients whose conditions are just getting worse as their appointments are delayed. We have people in the community who cannot even get their first appointment, they cannot get diagnosed and they cannot receive early treatment. Covid has accelerated our adoption of virtual appointments and remote patient monitoring, so there is some efficiency gained there.

- Associate Non-executive Director

Our booking officers absolutely love our Virtual Assistant Alex, since it does the legwork and they can focus on the patient. Over the last six months, Alex has helped save 24 hours of staff time every week. Our callers come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, so we worked with our communication to make sure Alex understands all our patients and the different ways they communicate.

“Working with EBO is like ‘a breath of fresh air’. They have a deep-seated ‘can-do’ ethos to delivering successful solutions and our collaboration functions as a true partnership. The EBO Virtual Assistant is a new technology for us with great potential as it integrates directly with our Electronic Patient Record. We initiated a pilot with EBO on e-Consent and are already lined up for rolling out pre-assessment and appointment modules.¨
